Sleep – A Powerful Revision Technique

We all like it. Most of us want more of it than we require. Even though we have spent over 20 years of our lives doing it, the benefits of sleep are not spoken explicitly to learners. Now that you have gone back to college, you need to do everything you can to perform well. One of the ingredients to good performance is getting adequate sleep. Sleep deprivation impairs working memory and attention. As an adult student, you have a lot on your plate; therefore your concentration is probably already compromised. If you do not get adequate sleep, you will be adding insult to injury and exposing yourself to poor performance.

Getting enough sleep boosts your insightfulness and creativity. Juggling work, school and family requires creativity. You also need to be creative at school for you to get good grades. Therefore, creativity is paramount as an adult student, and so is sleep.

One of the primary advantages of getting regular sleep is improving long-term memory. During our sleep, new connections between our brain cells are formed. Sleep usually prioritizes the memories we care about; a factor that is crucial during revision. An indisputable part of success in school is the ability to remember knowledge.

If you do not get enough sleep, you are likely to fall ill. This is because our bodies get to rejuvenate when we are sleeping. If you do not allow your body to rest, you will be tired for long hours and eventually your immune system will be compromised.
